Shannon Ropp
Hi! I’m a 22-year-old (called Shannon Ropp, as you may have guessed) and a recent (June 2019) graduate from Dartmouth College. Additionally, I am a current Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) candidate at Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering. At Dartmouth, I majored in Engineering Sciences and minored in Human-Centered Design. I’ll graduate (again) in March 2020 with my B.E. in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering.
I am currently looking to jumpstart my career with a design-oriented position. Aspects of design that most peak my interest are with consumer product design/development, sustainable design, interaction design, and experience design. Now, I know what you’re thinking: Shannon, you’re an engineer… What qualifies you for a creative position? To which I say, yes. I am an engineer. And I believe that’s what makes me most qualified. I’ve been developing a unique skillset through both my engineering studies and my work experience. I have the practical knowledge for analysis, I have cultivated a wide-range of problem solving skills, and I love math. Of course, this is all paired with a passion for design and an outlook to help the world. I am the intersection of design and engineering.
Great. So that’s the admin stuff. Aside from my degrees and vocations (which are important, but obviously there’s more to who I am than those), I have plenty of other things going on. I LOVE my home state of Michigan, ice hockey, comedy, and growing houseplants [my mom is begging me to stop buying them for my apartment]. A few notable favorites from that list include: Traverse City, the Pittsburgh Penguins, John Mulaney/Jen Kirkman/Jake Hurwitz & Amir Blumenfeld, and of course the ever-so famous Dieffenbachia Maculata.
Also, not to brag, but I’m an ex NCAA athlete. Discipline, time-management, work-ethic… all that good stuff. And at only 5’4″? Wow!
If you’re particularly interested in any of my projects and want to see further calculations/documentation/reports, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m also happy to answer any questions about myself or my background! Please check out my resume or drop me an email/phone call/instagram dm/tweet (whatever you’re into).
I can’t wait to hear from you!
